About MyGunnisonValley.com

History

If you've lived here in the Gunnison Valley for any amount of time you've likely grown attached to the place. This place is a haven and a destination for new residents looking for a change and the visitors we rely so heavily upon. Like anywhere else in the nation we have our challenges. Understanding those challenges and addressing them in a way that maintains the great quality of life we have in the Valley is the key.

Why we exist

Currently the local news outlets - from print to radio to coffee shops and hair salons - do a great job of covering the local and even the relative regional and state news. What seems to be missing is a way for people to have a sustained shared dialogue about the issues in a manner and time that is convenient for the individual. Each medium's ability to give coverage to opinions is limited by that medium. Papers are limited by space, radio by audience, coffee houses and hair salons by who happens to be there at a specific times. With these limitations in mind the dialogue can be understandably disjointed. An opinion or two printed, broadcast or discussed from the community on a given topic is certainly informative but many of our issues at hand - a county jail, a renewed interest in mining, annexations, ski area expansions - deserve a more rigorous dialogue. How can we improve the dialogue within the community on these issues or events? How can we also provide an opportunity for people to share stories, ideas, concerns, and insights into the daily life of citizen in the Valley? How can we connect with others in the community and share our vision for the present and future of this place we call home? It's a good question -- maybe we have an answer.

MyGunnisonValley.com is many things -- the term "community forum" represents a big part of what it is. We want people in the community sharing their thoughts, ideas, and dreams on a variety of topics -- any topics -- this is your site. The opportunity for dialogue and sharing is limitless. Not everyone shares the same point of view -- no surprise there -- but having a better understanding of the varied points of view with those on the other side of the fence is important if we're ever going to move forward as a community. This is your valley, your life, your stories... We hope you enjoy.

Sincerely, Co-Founders Stephen Pierotti and Anthony Poponi
